A Guide to Giving Yourself a Manicure

nail

Many people go to the salon to get a manicure, but did you know that you can give yourself a great manicure at home? You can! All you need are a few key items to get started. Make sure you have an emory board (classic nail file), an orange stick (for cuticle pushing), a cuticle clipper or pair of small nail scissors, a small bowl of warm sudsy water, a nail buffer, an oil of some kind (olive oil or jojoba oil work best), a clear top coat/bottom coat nail polish, a nail polish in the color of your choice, a few q-tips, and a towel for clean up. Once you have all of these items, follow the advice in this article, and give yourself a wonderful manicure.

The first thing you want to do is wash your hands thoroughly. Then, take me an emory board and even out all of your nails, making sure to get in on the corners where cuticles can build up. Make all of your nails even with each other, even if that means whittling them down further. Next, set up a movie, and put your hands into a small bowl form sudsy water for approximately 10 minutes. During this time, just hang out and wait. After the 10 minutes is up, take out your hands and dry them off.

Now that your cuticles are softer, you can use your orange stick and slowly and gently push your cuticles back. If you have a few pieces of nail or cuticles that are hanging off, use your cuticle clippers or scissors to cut them. Once that is done, go back with the emory board and even out your nails again. Next, use your nail buffer to soften the bed of the nail and even out any ridges.

Finally you are ready to paint your nails. First use your top coat/bas ecoat to lay down a clear layer on each nail. Once that is dry, use your chosen nail color and put on one layer. Let that dry, put on another layer of your chosen nail color, and finally, once that is dry, follow with another clear layer of polish. Wait at least 20 minutes to dry.
