What To Do in Singapore: A 24-Hour Guide

SingaporeTravel

On a tour of Asia? It would be a crime to see the sights of that vast continent without at least a one-day stop on the small island nation of Singapore! It would be easy to schedule an extra day before flying on to other destinations, and few 24-hour periods will be as well spent.

We arrive at Sentosa Island Resort for our accommodations, a resort also selected by five million others each year, and for good reason. The beach stretches on for a mile and a half (2 km) and is nearby two golf courses. Ft. Siloso, a World War II coastal defense

installation that helped create the famed Fortress Singapore, is within walking distance and is now a museum. Well enough, but to really explore this town, we will need to find a cheap car rental in Singapore that will put all its marvelous tourist stops within striking distance.

That done, we are ready for a full day’s excursion tomorrow and can sleep sound knowing we got a great deal on some first class wheels with full insurance, a top condition motor, a sleek, stylish, modern look, and excellent brakes. The most popular Express Car rental can offer top of the line vehicles for reasonable by-the-day or by-the-week rates for foreigners needing a car to see the sights here on the island. Long-term rentals are also available for those planning a longer stay.

First, we cruise on just up the road to Universal Studios and the Labrador Nature Reserve for our first stops. After lunch, off to see nearby Marine Life Park with its huge aquarium and Adventure Cove. There are many other nature exhibits we won’t have time to see: the Singapore Zoo (Mandai Zoo) with its equatorial Polar bears, Night Safari, the world’s only nocturnal zoo, and Jurong Bird Park with its local Southeast Asian Aviary, Penguin Coast, and more. Maybe next time. But we can’t pass up Underwater World and its 250 species of animals collected from around the world. Reefs crawling with crabs and all kind of other marine life are amazing to view in exhibit after exhibit.

Next we investigate Singaporean culture and history. We see the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum in Chinatown, the Hindu, Dravidian-style Sri Mariamman Temple, and the Chinese-built Fuk Tak Chi Temple. Next we drive our leased car to a foursome of Singaporean museums: the Asian Civilisations Museum, the distinct Asian Civilisations Museum at Old Tao Nan School, the National Museum of Singapore with its 19th Century architecture, and the Singapore Art Museum. We have run out of time to see the Mint Museum of Toys, but, alas, another day!

We drive off to our last two stops before returning to the resort: first, a ride on the Singapore Flyer, a giant ferris wheel that took over 2 years to build; lastly, a stroll through the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The garden is open till midnight every day and contains thousands of species, the National Orchid Garden, and a miniature rain forest.

Driving back to the resort, it is a good feeling to know that we got a great deal on a leased car that made this day’s experiences possible.
